Here he is! 6-months old and already a charmer! Little Jax had all the adults cooing and singing their ABC's to coax out that sweet toothless smile. So much fun! The day was perfect for our mini-session, blue skies but cool.

Can you just see the playful mischief in this little guy's eyes? So much fun! We ran all over the park with Jackson and his mom and dad, exploring everything from rolly-polly bugs to pebble throwing. There were just too many wonderful new things to do and see to be bothered with my camera.

Here is Jackson two years ago, the first time I photographed him. Same sparkle in the eye! Love watching him grow.

I wonder where he will head next? The world is waiting!

Family Fun - Long Beach Family Portrait Photographer

I love family portraits. But it is extra special when that family belongs to you. Before Christmas, (yes before Christmas, I know I'm a bit late on this one) I got to photograph my cousin, Amy, and her beautiful family. We headed to the park near their home for a classic portrait, and then back to their home for a few casual shots. I like the formal portrait above, but I believe the "outtakes" below that show all their personality will really be the treasured photos in the years to come. So much fun!

A word to all those mom's out there who get upset when their child won't cooperate for photo day, just relax and let it flow. Your child will never be this age again. Smiles are beautiful, but sometimes it is better to just let your child be who they are at the moment. You'll be happier, cause your child (and the photographer) less stress, and be glad you did in the long run. Amy, thank you for just going with the flow.

10 Tips for Great Maternity Photos

A Maternity Session is a wonderful way to celebrate the anticipation of your new baby. Whether you choose a classic studio style shoot or a natural lifestyle session, the goal is to reflect all the beauty, wonder, and love that your growing tummy represents. As you prepare for your photo session keep these few tips in mind.

{ 1 } Don’t wait too long! Your session should be scheduled for around your 34th week of pregnancy. At 34 weeks your tummy is nice and round, but you aren’t uncomfortably heavy. We want to shoot before the baby “drops” and while you are feeling your best.

{ 2 }Wear more makeup than you usually do! Even though you may feel like it looks too fake or heavy in person it will look better on camera, I promise! But don’t worry about your tummy. We will take care of that later if we need to.

{ 3 } Get a manicure! Your hands will be seen in nearly every picture. A simple, natural clear polish manicure will keep the focus on your tummy rather than on ragged cuticles or flashy polish.

{ 4 } Show your style! While I will bring wraps and other items, there are a few things you should have; non-maternity zip-front jeans, black yoga pants and tube or tank top, white mens-wear shirt, a form-fitting top or dress. Rich colors look fantastic, plum purple, deep red, rich green. Show some personality with your accessories. Have some fun!

{ 5 } Bring some baby items to the shoot! Have you purchased a little pair of jeans, shoes, hat, or special toy for your new baby? Bring it so we can document how you have been preparing for the new arrival. Your most recent ultra-sound is also a nice photo addition.

{ 6 } Men, be prepared! Never had manicure before? Now might be a good time for your first. Watches are not typically an accessory that adds to the shot; they can be quite distracting. Prepare your clothing selection - pressed white shirt, white t-shirt, black t-shirt, jeans, black slacks, and something that really says “YOU”

{ 7 } Men, be involved! Reflecting your affection, attention and involvement in the

photo session will help “mama” to feel loved, beautiful, and relaxed. Affectionate gestures look great on the camera! Kiss her cheek, her nose, her forehead, her tummy. Whisper something sweet, or naughty, into her ear.

{ 8 } Rest! Tidy up the nursery area so we can get some shots there, but don’t use the hour before the session to do it. Set aside the two hours before the shoot to take a nap, feet up. Lastly, freshen your hair and make-up

{ 9 } Relax... The most important thing to remember is to try to relax. I will direct you to be where I need and help you to know what to do. I will give you more direction if needed, but if I am not talking, just keep snuggling or smooching!

{ 10 } Don’t forget baby! Mark your calendar to remind you to schedule your newborn session , before sleepless nights make you forget. Newborns are best photographed at 2 weeks old.

Saturday the sun was shining, the breeze was warm, and the bride and groom were beaming. Shannon and Richard were joined by their family and friends for a lovely afternoon garden wedding. During the ceremony, Richard presented Shannon's daughter with a necklace to symbolize their new family.

If I had to use one word to describe the celebration it would be joyous. Twirling on the dance floor, greeting all their friends with lots of smiles and laughter. In fact, their joy was all over their faces and I actually asked them to stop smiling for a few of the images! Congratulations Richard and Shannon! A private home, known as The Gathering Place, in beautiful Warner Springs was the setting for Jacquelyn and David's Labor Day weekend wedding. Jackie and David met while attending Vanguard University. Their mutual love of horses and their shared faith drew them to one another. The ceremony was performed by Pastor Bruce Sonnenberg, a long time family friend of David's family, and communion was served by the groom's father. The couple headed to Belize for their honeymoon.

Last Saturday, Anise and Josh became husband and wife. It was a beautiful day filled with blue skies, laughter, and joy. Anise was calm, cheerful and gorgeous. Josh too was relaxed and so obviously in love. Anise and Josh met at church, and their wedding was truly a joining of two lives committed first to God, and then to each other. Josh and Anise wrote their own vows, based on specific scriptures chosen to highlight God's view of love and the marriage bond. The couple works with the older children at the Village Church of Irvine, and their fun-loving playful personalities were evident from the Van shoes that all the guys wore, to the couples exuberant knuckle-bomb at their pronouncement as husband and wife.

So in love! Erica and Brian are one of those sweet couples that just seem in tune with one another. They opted for an intimate wedding ceremony, which was held under the gazebo over looking Diamond Bar Golf Course, with only their closest friends and family. The gazebo was festively decorated with streamers of photograph adorned blue ribbons that moved gently with the soft breeze. What a beautiful touch! Erica was walked down the aisle by her son.

After the ceremony we all headed to a wonderful lunch at a private home. The home was gorgeous and made a great spot for a few more portraits. While we left after the first dance, the party went on into the evening with dancing under the stars. Congratulations, Erica and Brian! Have fun decorating your new place.

Threatening skies put us off for a week, but we finally made it to Laguna Beach for Christina's Senior portraits. And wow! we were blessed with such a gorgeous day. The blue sky was not the only beautiful thing about the day. Christina's smile was just as bright and cheerful as the spring afternoon.

Christina is a senior at HOPE Christian academy. She plans to attend Orange Coast College for her undergraduate studies and try her hand at interior design. While interior design is a current interest, she isn't ready to commit to it entirely. She is keeping her options open. Congratulations, Christina!

The day was a long one, starting well before we arrived at 7:30am। After the ceremony at Northridge United Methodist Church and a fabulous luncheon reception at the Anoush Banquet Facility, we headed to the Groom's home for a traditional Tea Ceremony. Yesterday, Jessica and I had a wonderful evening at the Los Angeles County Museum of art shooting the engagement photos for Ben and Janie. We got a late start, but it was worth the wait. We were accompanied by live jazz music in the park and the evening was warm and lovely.

Ben and Janie are a beautiful couple, so photographing them was very easy. And Janie had a lot of great ideas of her own, which we were happy to use for our session.

On Sunday, Jessica and I had the great honor of documenting the Golden Anniversary of Rita and Dan. It was a joyous occasion, with Rita and Dan surrounded by their children, grandchildren, and family and friends. All the children participated in their re-commitment ceremony. The rabbi gave the Seven Blessings, which was so touching, especially considering Rita and Dan have seven grandchildren.

Christy and Scott were married, May 23rd, 2009, at a remote horse ranch in the mountains overlooking Lake Elsinore. They are a fun and adventurous couple, and obviously very much in love.

Christy put so much into every detail of the day, and they planned several unique and fun touches for their guests. The reception was held under a huge tent in the horse arena with a candle and star lit dance floor. The guests were treated to a Tequila Bar, Candy Bar, a photo booth, and a pair of flip flops at each chair.

Horn Photography is participating in the National Charity Model Search for "America's Cutest Kid!" to raise funds for charity.

We are looking for children ages 18 months to 14 years old to be entered into the contest. If your child is selected the National Winner, you will receive many prizes, including a $5000 US Savings Bond and a Canon PowerShot G10 digital camera.

Melissa and Chris were married on Saturday at the lovely Talega Golf Club in San Clemente, California. The day started off with a cleansing downpour that left us with a gorgeous blue sky and dramatic clouds.

On Saturday, we gathered at the "studio" and then at the park for our annual photo shoot with the Beckers. It has been fun getting to record little RaeAnna's growth each year. Isn't she a cutie?
We had such a hard time getting RaeAnna to hold onto the balloons. It wasn't until we had decided to call it a day that she decided she was interested and then we couldn't get her to let go of them. What a blast it was chasing her all over the park, as she laughed and ran with the balloons following behind her. Happy Second Birthday, Rae!

Melissa and Chris were engaged on June 21, 2008. On Sunday, they stopped by to finalize the schedule for their upcoming, January 24th, wedding, and we took advantage of the face time to snap some quick headshots in lue of the usual engagement session. It has been my tradition for the past 10 years to create a Christmas card using my grandchildren. This year's card features Ethan (aged 9) representing Europe in his Scottish kilt, Elizabeth (7) representing Africa in honor of our friends, the Mundembes, who live in Zambia, Victoria (4) representing the USA, and Michayla (10) representing Asia, for all of our friends and extended family from Japan.

On Friday evening, Melinda and Ruben were surrounded by their family and friends as they were joined in marriage.

The wedding was lovely, held in a beautiful little Catholic Church, St. Catherine of Sienna, in Laguna Beach, California. You could absolutely see the deep respect, love, and commitment in their eyes. But what impressed me was the overwhelming feeling of support and love of their friends and family.

The reception started with the most wonderful heartfelt toasts and words of encouragement that even I was moved by the sincerity. Once the dancing started, Melinda hesitated to interrupt the party to cut the cake and toss the bouquet. But she was finally convinced.

Everyone should be blessed with such a supportive and loving group of friends and family. Melinda and Ruben, you are truly loved!

Yesterday, I met Christy and Scott for their engagement shoot. We started at the Irvine Spectrum shopping center and had a great time seaching for fun spots to shoot while doing our best to avoid the crowds and security. We got some great shots before being told to "put the camera away"

After our "undercover" session, we headed to Laguna Beach, where Scott is a fireman. The weather cooperated and we ended our shoot with some lovely sunset images. Christy and Scott will be married next May in an outdoor wedding in the nearby foothills.

On Sunday, Shivanthi and Brandon exchanged vows in the majestic cathedral-like St. Francis of Assisi Chapel of the Mission Inn in Riverside, California. The ceremony was performed by Brandon's grandfather.

After the ceremony friends and family gathered in the Spanish Art Gallery for the celebration. Towards the end of the evening, Shivanthi traded her white wedding dress for a traditional Sri Lankan Sari in honor of her heritage. Gorgeous no matter what she wears!

Last weekend, I shot the wedding of Jessica and Al. The Japanese Garden at Cal State Long Beach was a gorgeous setting for the wedding. Jessica was one of the most relaxed and easy-going brides I have worked with. She and her girls laughed and joked the entire day. Al was also a lot of fun, game for whatever we threw his way.

After the candlelit buffet dinner around the lake, Jessica changed into a white cocktail dress and the newly married couple climbed into the limo with their friends for a night on the town. Way to celebrate guys!

Ah! Hawaii! How can you miss when you are shooting such a beautiful bride in such a beautiful place. Last week, I was honored to shoot the wedding of Atsushi and Yuka at a lovely little church right at the base of Diamond Head.

To top it off, Jessica and I had the luxury of 2 full hours dedicated to the bridal portraits, allowing us to wait for the sunset. Jessica and Larry, as well as Doug and the grandkids, joined me for the trip and we made it into a family vacation. Thank you so much Atsushi and Yuka!

I shot the engagement session of Mike and Kimberly back in July, but I couldn't post their wedding photos without including at least one from the engagement shoot. Mike and Kim met and bonded because of their mutual love of the ride. Mike brought his bike and we got several great shots with it.

The wedding was a bit more traditional, but still a fun party atmosphere which included all their adult children and grandchildren in the festivities. Rock on, Mike and Kim!

Emylee and I had a great time celebrating with Robin and Wayne at their Wedding this past weekend. Robin planned a very warm and family friendly event complete with cupcake wedding cake, BBQ dinner, and cheerful sunflowers. Robin and Wayne were such fun, always laughing and ready to play.

The ceremony was held on the front porch of the French Estate, a lovely old home used as a B&B and event venue. The reception was held in the backyard under a canopy of twinkle lights and stars.
Robin was a beautiful bride and her adorable son, Dylan, made a handsome righbearer. No honeymoon for these two. They bought a brand new home instead! Congratulations Robin and Wayne!

I met Shivanthi and Brandon at the Los Angeles Museum of Art for their engagement shoot today. What fun! Shivanthi and Brandon brought their pretty in pink little dog, Apple. Apple was a good sport and waitined patiently when it was not her turn to star.

And what a great place to shoot. There were so many wonderful and interesting place to use as our backdrops. I can't wait for their wedding. It should also prove to be a gorgeous affair being held at historic Mission Inn in Riverside.
